How to fix any kind of broken iMovie imports

less than 1 minute read

Today I learned how to fix broken iMovie imports when you can’t simply drag back into the project media, like when importing from an iPhone, which apparently only works the first time.

  1. Go to the location of the .imovielibrary on your disk (the default is ~/Movies/iMovie Library.imovielibrary).
  2. Right click on the .imovielibrary item and click “Show Package Contents”.
  3. Click on the project folder.
  4. Go to the “Original Media” folder.
  5. Delete the blank, broken shortcut (denoted by the blank document icon and black arrow).
  6. Drag the original footage in the shortcut’s place.
  7. Go back and restart iMovie.

Voila!
